ARE YOU THINKING ABOUT ADOPTING A CHILD?
Canada's Waiting Children specializes in the adoption of older and special needs children. Just as with other adoptions, there are many things to consider before beginning the adoption process. Below we have included a couple of things to keep in mind as you begin making your decision.

Here are a few Points to Consider:

The majority of children listed with Canada's Waiting Children have special needs. "Special needs children" are defined as children whose emotional, social, physical or educational needs may pose a long-term challenge for the parent and child. These children may have had multiple caregivers, or have spent time in the care of a child welfare organization.

Do you have a specific child in mind? If so, does this child have special needs? You may wish to speak to parents of children with similar needs and find out what resources are available in your area.

Realize that you as a parent have needs in relation to your child and these needs are important - especially if they are not being met in other ways.

Be aware that there is a large gap between the intellectual understanding and emotional acceptance of a situation.
