It has often been said that a picture is worth a thousand words. A special twinkle in a child's eye, a shy smile, or a far away stare can provide the viewer with a peek into the child's personality.

  TAKING PICTURES

The wonderful thing about pictures is that they are easy to take. With just a little practice, anyone can take flattering pictures that offer a true reflection of a child's condition, while showing off their sparkle.

Avoid simply using school photographs. Follow the tips below and take great pictures of your own!

  PHOTO TIPS

The easiest and best pictures are taken outdoors.

Take the picture so that the sun neither falls directly on your subject's face nor into your lens.
Here are some quick guidelines:

Sunny out - Place the child in the shade
Sunny out and no shade - Turn the child so that the sun is hitting his or her back
Overcast day - Pictures may be taken anywhere
Indoors - Use a flash and make sure that you have the appropriate film

Get a range of distances (e.g., close-ups, middle-distance, full body with child doing something).
Get a range of expressions (e.g., serious, smiling, laughing).
For siblings, get both group and individual shots. (Make sure the photos are well labeled so that it is clear which child is which).
Choose comfortable clothes with bright colours.
